Purim - The Historical Background

 

There are 3 exiles to Babylon:-

 1) 605BC.     2) 597BC.     3) 586BC.

 

There are 3 returns from Babylon:-

1) 538BC – Zerubbabel to rebuild the Temple.

2) 458BC – Ezra to rebuild the people.

3) 444BC – Nehemiah to rebuild the wall.

 

Between Zerubbabel and Ezra we have Mordecai/Esther.

The events of Esther take place between 483-473BC. (10yrs)

 

The Book of EzraGod’s Promise.

 

A remnant returns to the Land.

 Ezra means – Yahweh Helps.

(Seen after 67 years)

 

The Book of NehemiahGod’s Provision.

 

A people build the walls.

Nehemiah means – Yahweh Comforts.

(Seen over 52 days of building)

 

The Book of EstherGod’s Protection.

 

A remnant are delivered and preserved.

(Seen over some 60 years)
