Introduction: In the Tanakh within the book of Bereshith/Genesis we can see three primary names of God as follows.
1) Elohim. Genesis 1:1.
2) Yehovah. Genesis 2:4.
3) Adonai. Genesis 15:2.
Proposition: However, there are a further seven compound names that we can see in Yehovah (Jehovah), the covenant keeping God.
These are hidden but then revealed in Psalm 23 as follows –
Teaching: Let us see these names of Jehovah in the words of David within
1) Jehovah-Jireh. Genesis 22:14. ‘The Lord who provides.’
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.
2) Jehovah-Shalom. Judges 6:24. ‘The Lord who gives peace.’
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, He leadeth me beside the still waters.
3) Jehovah-Ropheka. Exodus 15:26. ‘The Lord who heals.’
He restoreth my soul.
4) Jehovah-Tsidkenu. Jeremiah 23:6; 33:16. ‘The Lord our righteousness.’
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
5) Jehovah-Shammah. Ezekiel 48:35. ‘The Lord who is there.’
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For Thou art with me. Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
6) Jehovah-Nissi. Exodus 17:15. ‘The Lord our banner.’
You preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; You anoint my head with oil. My cup runneth over.
7) Jehovah-Mekaddishkem. Exodus 31:13. ‘The Lord who sanctifies.’
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23 is probably everyone’s favourite Psalm, it truly touches us and comforts us, it lifts us up, it blesses us.
